Information

Minor procedures in the anal area include various surgical treatments performed in the region of the anus. These procedures are generally less extensive and less invasive than major surgical operations in this area. They may involve excision or incision of different lesions, growths, skin tags, and similar findings.

These procedures include:

  • Removal of perianal skin tags
  • Removal of anal polyps
  • Removal of anal fissures
  • Removal of anal fistulas
  • Treatment of haemorrhoids
  • Surgical drainage
  • And others

These procedures are often performed on an outpatient basis or under local anaesthesia, and are always preceded by a medical examination and consultation, during which the doctor will recommend the most appropriate treatment approach for your condition.

When to see a doctor

A visit to a proctologist – a specialist in the diagnosis and treatment of diseases of the rectum and anal area – is recommended in the following situations:

  • Problems with bowel movements, such as constipation, diarrhoea, or a feeling of incomplete emptying
  • Painful bowel movements
  • Rectal bleeding
  • Haemorrhoids
  • Pressure or pain in the rectal area
  • Itching around the anus
  • A palpable lump or wound in the anal region
  • A sensation of a foreign body in the anus

What to expect during a proctology examination

At the beginning of the consultation, the doctor will take your medical history, including family history, and discuss your current symptoms and health concerns. This is followed by a physical examination of the anal area, during which the proctologist uses appropriate and gentle instruments. The examination may be mildly uncomfortable.

After the examination and evaluation of all relevant information, the proctologist will establish a diagnosis. Depending on the findings, appropriate treatment may be recommended, which may include dietary changes, medication, procedures, or surgical intervention.
