Information

Nail bed surgery, also known as nail fold surgery, is a surgical procedure performed to treat various conditions or problems related to the toenails and the nail bed.

Nail bed surgery is usually necessary in the following case:

Ingrown toenail – If a toenail grows into the surrounding skin, it can lead to pain, inflammation, and infection. During the procedure, part of the toenail or nail bed is removed to prevent further ingrowth.

How is the procedure performed?

Every procedure at INTER MEDICO begins with a consultation, during which you and your doctor will discuss the problem and agree on a date for the procedure.

On the day of the procedure, the doctor applies local anaesthesia to numb the affected nail and the surrounding area, minimising any discomfort or pain. If the cause is an ingrown nail or damaged tissue, the affected parts are removed. If the nail bed itself is deformed or damaged, the doctor carries out the necessary corrections to restore its normal shape and structure. Once the repairs are complete, the wound is usually closed with sutures to ensure it heals properly.

After the procedure, it is important to follow your doctor's instructions for wound care to minimise the risk of infection and support optimal healing. Recovery typically takes several weeks, during which you should avoid activities that could cause further damage or irritation to the area.

We provide care beyond the scope of public health insurance. The fee for a single examination including a pre-procedure consultation is CZK 2,500. Full price list available here.
