How is the procedure performed?
The procedure is performed on an outpatient basis, does not require anaesthesia, and takes approximately 20 minutes. The patient is positioned in a lithotomy (gynaecological) position, while the doctor uses ultrasound guidance to identify the arteries supplying the haemorrhoid. Ultrasound also allows real-time monitoring of the procedure and immediate assessment of the effectiveness of vessel closure.
