Information
Haemorrhoids are a common condition that affects at least half of the population at least once in their lifetime. A haemorrhoid is a structure that develops as a result of loosening or disruption of the connective tissue in the area between the rectum and the anal canal. The loosened tissue may then prolapse into the anal canal or even outside through the anal opening.
In the resting state, haemorrhoids may not cause significant pain or symptoms up to a certain stage of progression. Problems typically occur during straining during bowel movements or heavy physical exertion. Advanced haemorrhoids may cause pain and discomfort even at rest.
